I too am pretty sure they are 1/4-28, especially since that is the most common size for zerks. I'm 99.9% but can't be positive without having one right in front of me.

I'm gunna have to say it's metric. I have a sae guage and it doesn't match any of them. The tap is 1/4 28 and you can see it's different. None of my dies fit it.

Or is it a pipe thread? 1/8 npt would be too large. Is it 1/16 npt? 1/16-27?

    It seems you're both right.

The zerk on the SS coupler is metric. (cheesy Harbor Freight tap gauge shows 27? (it's the smallest one on there, just below 0.95)

But, the coupler hole seems to be a 1/4-28 thread.

I think the zerk is 1/16-27 tapered pipe thread and the coupler thread is 1/4-28
