    stock cylynder head question

    just took my st. head off and was wondering what the plugs are for in the front and back corners of the water jacket.they are held on with a philips screw. as the st. head that i am going to put on doesnt have them.are the needed?

    those are anodes

    yes, you need them

    never heard of that before.what is the purpose of the anodes?

    you don't need them in saskatchewan unless your lakes and rivers are salty
    they are "sacrificial"meaning they get eaten up in a reaction that prevents corrosion when riding in salt water.

    think of it this way....they are corrosion magnets. they keep your water jackets inside the cylinders from corroding.

    i will install them in my new head. thanks for the info guys,learn something everytime i log on to the hulk.
