Have a look at the Service Bulletin PWC-96-08

Revised Carburetor Jetting for 1996 SLTX

    PTO 138
    CEN 142
    MAG 142

    Also of interest is PWC-96-05
    1996 SL900 and SLTX

I don't have the specifics of this one

    carbs

ditch the 38mm carbs and run my 40mm's.this is the biggest bang for the buck on that ski and next would be lighter tension reed petals, got those 2.

i have the same ski with similar setup ,

i would run the revised setup , and get 40mm carbs , and carbon fiber reed replacement oddly enough doug GUY ABOVE has boths , can he reinstall the choke plates on your set doug well if you cant or dont want his set look for 1200 or 99+ carbs will get you going in the right direction ,

maybe sum hotseat domes as well ,

    wedge ,

    yada yada yada

a primer is a better to start one,way less cranking on the starter.

    re

I just rebuilt the motor, cant afford the 40mm carbs yet...

my problem was, I took it out for the 1st time, and the plus were all lean..

    just slightly lean, border line.

all I did to the motor was bored slightly, cleaned the ports out, and shaved the head a little... the ski has a after market water box on it, and I set it up for pre-mix oil.

the jets in it now are mag 142 center 142 pto 138
    pilot and mid 58's

there is no high speed adjuster, maybe I can just turn the lows's out to 2 turns, there were set on 1......

also what kind of max mph should I be getting out of this ski?

96 sltx 1050, new motor, shaved heads a little, water box, 4 inch extension on nozzel (welded on).... pretty much stock

    thanks

    premix

changing to premix will lean one out.said main jet will only pass a certain volume thru it,going to premix is a higher oil content.more oil in the mix takes up the space the gas was using to pass thru the jet, henceforth a leaner mixture

How much did you shave the heads? I had some shaved heads and the pistons were slightly hitting them. You might want to pull them and check them.

well there is a little method of takeing a paper clip and useing sand paper to rough it up a bit , and then run it thru your jets , i would never do it but it might save ya 5.95 per jet , but i would go with a higher jet on the main jet on center and mag ,

    whats the pilot jets ? 32 58 ? 58 58 ?
