    OIL

on 4-strokes how often do you change to oil and filter? I have a guy I am helping with a yamaha ski got it last year and he had the 10hr service. He had it winterize and I just wanted to know with only 27 hours on the ski. Will the oil need change? That really not that much hours. All I am didn;t is dewinterize it.

    Thanks
    Randy

Always start with fresh oil at the first of the season.

Just wondering, does Amsoil work well in these? I use it in my truck, but never thought about using it in the Yamaha (FX140), and it's time for the change with the season starting up. Thought you looked like you might know.

Yes it works very well in the marine engines. You can use the AMSOIL 10w-40 Synthetic Marine Oil http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?z...storefront/wcf

    Klotz Lube

I have used both Amsoil anbd Klotz -
I use Amsoil in my cars and boats...

I am using Klotz in all my various PWC's...very high quality oil.
    Klotz SkiCraft X4 TechniPlate 10/40
100% Synthetic - specifically designed and engineered for PWC engines.
Expensive...but the best quality PWC oil IMO.
    www.klotzlube.com

Engines operated in a marine enviro have a tough life...
You cant go wrong with Amsoil or Klotz...just be sure to use
100% Synthetic oil...big believer in these modern Syn oils.
I have seen the reduced wear and lower op temps with my own eyes...

I know this thread is a little old, but is there a difference between the Amsoil marine oil and just plain car oil? I used Mobil 1 full syn 10W-30 when I put in my new engine last summer. Is this fine or do you feel I should be using something else?

Yes there is a difference between an car oil and a marine oil. Marine engines operate under high loads and RPMs for extended periods of time, causing traditional automotive oils to break down and lose viscosity. Marine engines are prone to rust, leading to uncontrolled wear and premature engine failure. However, good rust protection is not natural to engine oil. Hope this helps.

    Hey Kevin,

I am switching over to AMSOIL this week. Can I use a fresh stock filter on my FX SHO? Will it work with the fully synthetic marine oil?
