    CT Riders NEW HAVEN AREA

Seeing the Hartford guys started a thread for the CT River area, thought I'd start a thread for the riders in the New Haven area or for people looking to ride in the area for the season.

Several places to ride, including the CT River. Here are a few that come to mind:

LI Sound/New Haven Area, Housatonic River ( fresh and brackish) Lake Zoar.

Fellow area riders chime in. Let the riding begin ( continue for some)

Do any of you guys ride in the Stratford/Shelton area alongside RT 110?

I work at Sikorsky and everyday when I pass over the bridge I wish I was out on the water down there...

Yes that is my preferred spot as it is close to me.. We can launch in Devon or Derby.

There is a picnic area @ Sunnyside school, where I've anchored and and bbq'd.. Further down there is a bar in Stratford, right under 95 bridge, with docking available.

Usually not too crowded on the Housy.. and little if any police action. Offers a chance to ride the Sound and or flatter river water

I have to disagree with that.
There is tons of police action on weekends in the river and the DEP goons hang out at the ramp in devon asking to see all of your paperwork and fire extinguishers.

This combined with the countless no wake zones are some of the reasons why I lost interest in the Housy a few years back...

The scenery also sucks and theres logs and shit floating everywhere.
Hell.. there was a body floating in there about three years ago..

I have never seen a DEP boat in the 7 years I have been riding. Seen maybe two coast guard boats from Devon bridge south.. never bothered me ..

From the bridge north I have NEVER seen a Coast guard/DEP patrol boat..And that is with plenty of WOT heades up riding.. Right Beerdart?

The no wake zone can be tough, but if you launch in Devon, Derby, Shelton you avoid it..Unless you want the Sound.

That no wake zone is a PITA. If you find the right channel through the marshes, that no wake zone isnt soo bad.
