    Carbureted Genesis, or fuel injected?

    Carb'ed Yamaha?

Generally speaking, the fuel injected Polaris engines were among the most fuel efficient for their power. The carb'ed Polaris engines were also quite reasonable for fuel consumption, but not as good as the Ficht engines.

I am not familiar with the Yamaha XLT, so I won't say that the Genesis is better for sure, but it is likely.

The other factor is fuel tank capacity, and how easy it is too carry extra fuel, or install a larger fuel tank.

The 1999 Genesis fuel tank is spec'ed as 17 US gallons (64.4 liters). The 2003-2004 Genesis fuel tank is a bit larger at 17.8 US gallons (67.4 liters). I think the later model fuel tank could be retrofitted to the earlier Genesis.

BTW, there were several Service Bulletin updates for the 1999 Genesis, including a replacement PTO cylinder head with EMM update disc. Make sure the 1999 Genesis i you are considering has been updated.

There is one listed on eBay at the moment.
    Part number 2201651

The update kit comes with a 3 1/2" floppy disc (yes, a floppy), which you run from a DOS booted computer.

You would also need the Ficht communications cable to connect the laptop serial port to the EMM diagnostic connector on the Genesis.

The communications cables can be hard to get. The Deutsch connector and pin wiring connection info available - just not with me right now.

SPX 2872454 E.M.M. LAPTOP COM. CORD
This is the main cable needed to connect laptop to the Ficht EMM Deutsch connectors (1999 to ????)

    SPX PW-45776 COMMUNICATOR CABLE ADAPTER
Adapts the 2872454 laptop cord to a different connector type (WeatherPack/Packard) used on some Ficht PWC model years (starting with 200?)

Note that SPX parts can only be ordered by/through Polaris dealers

You bought the update before you bought the actual 1999 machine?

Send a message to 4strokepolaris, he can check the HIN number to see what updates have been done (by any Polaris dealer), or are still outstanding, in the Polaris service database for the particular 1999 Genesis you are buying.

He may be able to tell you what the outstanding updates (if any) involved, so you may be able to do them yourself. Some Service Bulletins are just inspections or checks.

It is not clear that the cylinder head in the 2201651 PTO update kit for the 1999 Genesis is the same as the PTO cylinder head used for 2000-2004 Genesis & Virage TXi

    2000-2004 Genesis & Virage TXi
    3021188-093 HEAD,CYL,DFI,LC3,FIRE RED
    Substituted by 2201939 (PTO)

    1999 Genesis
    3021145 HEAD-CYLINDER, 84MM(PTO)
    Substituted by 3021145-093

How quickly do you need the EMM communications cable?
