Thread: cavitation problem??

Hey all - I have a 2004 FX Cruiser HO. It feels like it is "slipping" in the water until about 16 mph then it takes off quickly as normal. It still tops out at 52 mph as always, it just feels like Fred Flintstone slipping on dirt until it takes off. Is this what cavitating is? The impellar looks fine - sharp edges which are tight to the housing around it - no chips or dents, etc. The part directly behind the impellar - the impellar duct - which looks like a 6 armed starfish - has some corrosion on each wing/arm on the edge closest to the impellar. Could this be causing the problem? Those edges look eaten up - not smooth or clean. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
