    Kawasaki 900ZXI (1997)

Hey everybody! I picked up a 900ZXI and been restoring it back to shape.
Painted the ski, cause the paint in the wells were pelling in large sections.
(last owner never took care of it) she took it in for service work due to stalling at idle, and they dealer took the carbs off and wanted some big$$ to repair, she thought it was outrageous and said no. I got the ski with carbs in parts, everything there. picked up a used set (freshwater) and she fires right up and runs. compression is 110 in all 3 cylinders. i did away with oil injections and doing pre-mix. here is my problem.
the gauges and VTS will not work. someone told me to replace the power relay. (so i swapped it out) little black box with 2 wiring plugs. I work on electronics and computers in the military. any advice? does anyone have a really good wiring diagram for this ski? so i can try and wring out the wiring? appreciate any and all advice, tips and help i can get. thanks!!

I would suggest checking all the plug-in connectors and see if that helps the gauges. I've found some that had gotten water in them and the metal contacts were completely gone.

I would bet that your trim motor got water in it. Most of them do. Take the cover off and have a look. The big O-ring is a pain to get back on. If you find the inside of the trim box is OK, make sure you seal it with some 3M 4200 when you close it up.

I open the trim box, and it was spotless inside, and I resealed it up. I will go thru and check the connectors one by one, and see if there is any bad connections. thanks.

Still looking for a good wiring diagram if anyone has one?

    thanks!

you can download service manual from ebay for about $10.send me a pm with your email adress and i'll TRY to send you a copy. The one I have is for 95,should be the same. The blue/white and green/white into the trim box go to the motor.pos and ground direct to them will test motor.Ther is a single ground wire at battery for gauges, make sure it's connected to negative side.this will be much smaller gauge wire than battery cables.
