Need help 80mph gpr 1450 BB

My son wanted a waverunner jetski of his own he had been looking in the classifieds and found this 1450 BB waverunner we purchased it.After riding it I took my GPS out of my car and measured its speed and realized that this ski is capable of 80+ mph.My wife and I do not feel safe having our 17yr old son riding around on something this fast on public waterways.I would like to know if there is a cost effective way to slow down the speed of the ski .I don't know how to go about this,or do I try and buy an original 1200 motor?Or would it be best to sell this and buy something more practical for my son and familiyThis is a pic of the ski all the info about it is in the yamaha classifieds under 79.1 mph 1450 BB.Thank you for your help.

I'm not sure I understand you state you are surprised at the speed it is capable of, then send me to the sales link with for a 79.1 mph ski ???? if you want to slow it down, I will trade you an excellent running 1200R motor for that one.

not bashing, but you really need to do research before you buy a ski.. this isn't just for you.

You bought a ski that is not meant for a beginner, or somebody just getting into the sport..

you could swap engines, and make it slower.. remember though you have a sweet built ski... not many like that

I would think you could trade that ski for a low hour stock ski and even a little cash.

I admire that you want your son to be safe, that is the best way to be.

......I posted the link so everyone could see what was in it so they could better help me.I hear many times peoples claim that their ski goes 70 or 80 miles per hour and always took it with a grain of salt. Sorry if I did not write this post properly. You guys made me feel stupid for asking.
