    '99 Ultra 150

I am thinking of buying an Ultra 150 with 70 hours and the only things the ownersays are wrong are:

oil & gas gauge both just stay on full.

I have read here that the fuel gauge may just be stuck and there is a possibility to work it loose. I have not read anything on the oil gauge though?

    Any help, thanks.

I LOVE mine! The oil 'gauge' is pretty ineffective. The tank has to be down to about 1/4 full before it stops indicating full.

I believe you have to pull the engine out to slide the fuel tank back to gain access to the fuel sender unit.

Make sure you inspect the condition of the oil lines and the cable for the oil pump. Run a compression test.

Actually the sending unit will come out without pulling the motor. You might need to release the fuel tank straps and tip the tank but that would be about it. I managed to get mine out without having to tip the tank. There is a pic of the sending unit in the mods thread in my sig.

I was hoping that you would make it so I could show you my mint ultra...but I know how things go, maybe next year...that is a good thread in your sig.

Note the Ultra has a pump service interval at 75 hours (I think - someone correct me) - the pump is designed to have very tight clearances. When it goes, I think the charge around here from a dealer is about $1800 - you need to pull it to replace the bearings. Factor that into price.

I might make it but it will be a last minute decision if I do. I have also picked up a 00 model and have put tripples on my 04 I would bring them both.

The pump bearings are no big deal and no where near that expensive to fix. They do need to be checked and when its time make sure you put the updated seals in it. The eary ultras had 2 seals and the later had 3. my 04 has almost 150hrs on the original bearings. If you got a dealer charging $1800 I hope he atleast gives a reach arround to go with that bill
