    96 Tigershark (Help Please)

Hi New to the forum and pretty new to wrenching on skis. Here is my problem.

My ski was running fine all summer. The last day i had it out, I jumped on started fine, got about a hundred yard and it shut down. Never started again. It was october so i didn't bother with it and just winterized it.

I took it out yesterday to try and take a look at it, it has spark and lots of compression, But it won't start.

I put about an once of premix in each cylinder and it fired right up. It would rev up fine. I didn't run it too long because i'm not sure where to hookup a hose. It started fine about 5 times and then would not start for anything again. I put a little more fuel down the cylinder and it fired up perfect again.

I'm in no way a mechanic but am pretty handy, so any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

How many different brands of PWC do you have?

I know very little about Tigersharks, but it sounds like you have a fuel delivery problem.

Fuel pump, fuel lines, fuel selector valve, fuel pick-up inside the tank - those would be areas to investigate.

I presume you have multiple carburetors, so it should start even if one carb was plugged up.

Any chance there is water in the bottom of the fuel tank?

If it hasn't ever been done, I would start by rebuilding the carbs.

I have seen a few ski's of this age loose the fuel pickup line from the fitting on the top of the tank. Remove the fuel line and unscredw the fitting you should be able to pull up the pickup tube and the screen on the end.

    Thanks for the help guys.

Not sure why it died last year, but it is running fine now. Just wouldn't start with out putting some gas down the carb or the cylinders.

I intsalled a primer yesterday and it is good as new. thanks everyone

Might want to chk on the small chk valves in the carbs like the other member suggested, if they were slightly perforated it would still run ok for a while....your just overcoming the carbs working right at crank-up with the addition of the primer kit....I have worked on lots of sharks, you should go through the carbs, bad valves make the cyls run "wet" with fuel, which is really bad as it displaces the lube of the oil....killing it slowly. its cheap insurance...carb kits are cheap, engines are kind of pricey.
