2008 Ultra 250X Does Not Return to Idle Immediately
I pulled out my Ultra 250X and put it on the garden hose and used the orange key so I could kick in the super-charger. When I run it up to about 8000 RPM and release the thumb throttle it does not return to idle immediately. It actually stays at about what I ran it up to for about 4-6 seconds and then quickly comes down to about 1800 RPM's. When I tap the throttle then it returns to its normal idle.
This is only the second year I have had this and I can not remember if it is suppposed to do that?
There are no faults, the gas is fine, the battery is fine, and all seems well.
I did notice that a bolt on the throttle cable sleeve down at the engine had come loose. I put it back on and tightened it up but it still does the same thing.
Thanks for the timely responses folks. I will check the freeplay. Also after I put some thought into it I figure it might be by design. Say you are running at WOT and then release the throttle; I imagine if the engine actually dropped back down to idle immediately you would end up swamping your ski.

I think they are to run a high idle and slowly come back down,,,my 07 does it to.

thats funny most have a finger throttle they all have done it at some stage just some more than others. one thing i would re-check your throttle cable free play if the adjusting nuts were loose

Mine does the exact same thing. It is not by design and is unsafe. Re route throttle cable. SEARCH THE POSTS

well if you don't like the holes the pistons are in you can pull the trigger a few more times and watch them swap holes
