I used an in-line valve on my gpr. $7/valve,$2/2ft 1/2" I.D braided high pressure hose at lowes. Can turn off/on in seconds and i returned it to stock in minutes when i traded in. The top deck on the gpr is only 4" from top of pump so i couldn't just cut stock hose and put valve in.
To answer your question. With the pet tach and gps there was no difference in top rpm's and speed in back to back tests. Since i could just close valve the tests were a minute apart.
I've never removed the syphon so i cant comment on that.

I just used JB weld It does nothing performance wise. But it stops the annoying cold water hitting your back.
