4" Air Intake Question
Ok, so I lurk here a lot and this may have been covered before but my question is this---------
If you use a 4 inch intake, it eventually decreases in size to a 3 inch opening at the SC(stock class racing, no SC work allowed here), has anyone done any kind of testing to see if it makes any MAJOR difference where the reduction in the intake size is?
Does it make more HP if the reduction is right at the SC or does it make more if the reduction is a little further up stream?
Let me know, just playing around with something and need to know if this has been discussed or tested before

That is great info from Danny, but doesnt really answer my question...He tested it with the adapter right on the SC, some of the kits or home made kits i have seen, have the adapter further up stream and away from the SC..I am wondering if that will make a difference in air flow.....
Guess i will PM Danny since he took all the time for his research....

You want to get the air as close to the SC as possible. Let the SC do the work...not the reduction fitting. Get the R&D adapter from the 4-tecperformance.com and run the Kanaflex all the way to the SC. --J

Yea, closer to the SC as possible...Running a small volume part, such as OEM elbow, hooked to a larger 4" setup...defeats the porpose. Its all about VOLUME getting to the SC. Any change in volume size will cause a supply issue...

With a 3" pipe the whole way or even reduced well before the sc would mean a 3" bend...or more than one just before the sc....more restrictive....doesn't flow as well as running a 4" or better line the entire length to the sc.
