    03 vs 06 1300r

    Hello everyone,

I've been lurking for months, and finally decided to get into my ski based on all of the info everyone posts here - the speed bug has definitely got its teeth in me now!

So here's a question - I have an 03 with just a couple of bolt on parts, but I also have the ability to pick up an 06 and start fresh - which ski would be a better foundation to build on for a 75mph, stable, rough water, butt kicking machine? I know the hull is basically the same (reinforced around the pump shoe?) - and the motor doesn't have powervalves - btw, looking at the engine compartment on the 05-06, it looks like there's so much more room to work compared to my 03! Is there any other advantage to the 06?

Looking forward to all of your advice!

    Sean

The 06 is much lighter and has the new pump.

Untrue. The 06 is way lighter than the 02, but 03 may not be that much heavier at all.

Mark, what would you recommend? I wasn't sure if the 03 to 06 weight was much different; do you (or anyone else) know if there's a structural difference? I'm wondering about reinforcement around the pump area specifically, especially if I increase the volume/rate of water through the pump, and add/remove parts over time?

Also - any thoughts on the PV vs Non-PV motor?

    Thanks!
    Sean

My friend has an 03. I have an 05.

    Skis are identical in mods.

They are dead even in a race.

He had to buy an 05 pump.

    Sorry,
I'm not in the position to recommend one over the other.

If your 03 already has the pump reinforcement, then that is a good thing, if it was done soundly. You'll have to do the same to the 05 or the 06.

The engine is pretty much externally the same, except for the power valves, which makes the cylinders the biggest difference internally. Get 05 cylinders and that's now the same. The power valves are one less thing to worry about. However, some tuners like them.

Ignition mapping is going to be different. Out of my league here. No idea how hard to upgrade.

Pump is smaller on the 03. That's about a $250 job to match plus the dynafly prop on either boat.

Colors, graphics, and that new boat smell.

    PLEASE,
somebody correct me, if you have proof, or even a damn good idea that the 05/06 is terribly lighter than the 03.

We know all the 13r's are lighter than the 12r's by approx 60lbs.

I haven't done the pump tunnel reinforcement yet - I was going to tackle that as soon as I got into the internals. If I have to do it to either ski, it's a wash I guess.

Other than the pump upgrade, is there anything else I would want to change on my 03 to bring it to 05/06 spec? Would there be any improvement in performance by changing cylinders? All of the performance stuff seems to fit both the 03 and 06, pump excluded.

factory specs still show dry weight at 653 pounds (Dry Weight) for the 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006.

If the 05 and 06 is acually lighter than the 03 and 04 hull, then it's not advertised.
