Ok, so it seemed like it was running good for a while after we rebuilt the carbs, replaced the reeds and we also upgraded the fuel pump to a three output one feeding each carb directly. However, after we started running it more and when everything seemed to be running we started smelling a lot more fuel in the garage. This past weekend we took the waverunner up to Lake Placid Florida and started runnning it in one of the many lakes up there. On saturday it ran like a charm, but on Sunday (we left it in the water over night) it started giving me issues, the engine sounded very muffled, it lost 13mph off the speedometer (it was running at around roughly 45 the previous day) and it just didnt really wanna cooperate. I tried replacing the spark plugs (which all three of them came out black, and semi wet, I could smell some gas but the pistons looked to be firing). I don't really know the issue.

Help please! I'm pretty new to this stuff.

    Thanks,
    Brett

Were the needles and seats replaced at the carb rebuild?

Maybe the gas tank vent is clogged and forced fuel into the engine when sitting?

Did you shut off the petcock or leave it on?

Is there fuel dripping out of any of the carbs when running?

    Have you checked compression?

Be careful with gasoline fumes inside the hull.

Thoroughly ventilate the hull with the seat off before attempting to start the engine.

You do not want an unexpected explosion to ruin your day.

Needles were not replaced. The dude helping me said they should be fine.

    Could be an issue

I think it was left on, not entirely sure.

    No fuel dripping

    120 across the board

I talked to Matt today and it looks like we located the issue. The spark plug on piston 3 looks like it wasn't getting a spark, the boot basically fell off the cable in my hands when I took it off the plug.

The dude helping me before spilled a ton of gas in the bilge, Matt gave me a method on how to get it out, and I will be doing that tomorrow.

Cool. Keep us posted on what you find.

Clipped and stripped the wires going to the boots that connect to the spark plugs and zip tied them down and it seems that all three cylinders are firing now. I will try to take it out on the water tomorrow and listen to what it does.

Also that gas smell is finally going away after I used Matts method.
