I have had and like both the Garmin E-trex mounted on ski and Garmin Forerunner 201 which can be worn on wrist like a watch. The 201 doesn't have mapping capabilities but is functional for speed, lap data with software computer interface. Both I've sourced through E-Bay.

RX is right on..... you can get the 201 pretty cheap if you look around, if all you want is a speedo, and it has great mounting options. I like having a map, so I've got the Garmin 60CS with a handlebar mount.

check Wal-Mart out as well. They will have some cheap Garmin E-Trex models too.

They are all Waterproof: IEC 60529 IPX7 standards (submersible in one meter of water for up to 30 mins.)
