Need some advice on small end of connecting rod

Just want to hear from the guys who know, if this is acceptable or not (which I doubt). Noticed some small pitting in the small end of the connecting rod.

    Take a look.

This is from a 1100 waveraider that needs some serious TLC, but for what I paid for, I'm willing to get her running and invest some money into the project.

    Thanks again...

Is it surface deposit or pitted.
If it is surface deposits then you could clean it of with acitone if its pitted dont use it.
Thats a surface your bearing rides on

    Unhappy

Its pitted with rust! New crankshaft mate, it will fail if you use it.

Yeah, that's reason why I took some pics and reason why I thought I should replace them. But I'll clean the surface first with acetone and make sure it's just surface deposits. Would using a high grit sand paper (800 to 1000) work on cleaning the surface?

    Thanks for posting.

+1 on cleaning this with acetone or some phosphoric acid (naval jelly).
Problem is if this end of the connecting rod is rusted chances are there is rust in the crank bearings. This could be a very big problem. Best bet would be to send this crank off to someone and have it rebuilt.

From your pics that motor looks like its been sitting for a while.

Yes you need to check the whole crank out any rust in the bearings or pitted surfaces and your crank will fail.
Crack open those cases if you dare.

Oh I plan replacing all seals and doing the whole engine for the ground up. And yes, the thing has been sitting for a very long time. Not so scared of tearing it apart replacing everything if needed.

Thanks for the input guys and definitely keep you posted!
