first time out this season problems

i have a 94 sl650 with a 750 motor...when i run the ski it takes on water but in a small amount but over a tank of gas it would sink...when i take off the motor revs up but the prop dont seem to grab like a clutch slipping in a car...but after i get passed 1/4 throttle i heard a rattle and then i drop below 1/4 and it stops

i think that its the bearing cuppler mounted between the motor and the pump is bad because maybe when its runnin the grease thins out and lets water in.....

the ski is currently still in the water ill have it out tomorrow for a better diagnosis

if you have any idea please let me no

Which engine coupler do you have? Black or stainless steel?

Check your drive shft splines on BOTH ends.

Sounds like you have several problems.

If water is getting in past the through-hull bearing seals, then you need to replace or rebuild the assembly. You can get a good used one from John Zigler, or one of the guys parting out PWC in the Classifieds.

Pull the jet pump out, and check for striped splines at both ends of the drive shaft. Also check the engine coupler for this problem (if yours is the rubber bonded type).

BTW, click here for the Service Manual. Lots of good info.

Once you get it all fixed, you might want to install a bilge pump. They have saved many a boat from sinking
