08 rxt front compartment
Both mine and my buddies lift assist rod came apart at the ball joint I assume this has happened to others how did you fix and prevent it from recurring?

its a pita...
make sure the ball joint is clipped into the bottom of the shock first.. i undid the lid, lifted it.. clicked the shock on along with the spring clip (i got some stainless aftermarket ones from an auto shop) then got a friend to press the lid or hold it place while i secured the lid back on... trying to compress the shock and get it in by yourself is impossible.
mine hasn't come off in over 100hrs since i fitted the stainless clips on..

I solved it by bending the lower mounting bracket up a bit, it seemed like mine was bent down, as in NOT perpendicular. Don't know if it was like that from the factory or if it just happened over time.
Just put a large adjustable wrench on it, give it a tug.
Rode all last summer in the rough, NEVER came off !!

Use your socket wrench in the long slot to pull the bracket down and connect the shock to it.
