Oil tank leaking around level sensor

I have a 2000 polaris Genesis. The 2 cycle oil is leaking around where the oil level sensor goes in. I pulled the sensor out and it looks like the old owner wraped the plug with electrical tape. I took the tape off and the plug is very loose. Any ideas to stop this leak?
    Thanks

I think electrical tape wrapped around the rubber plug will work but will the oil break it down? Any ideas??
