Memorial Day on the Kissimmee River

Beautiful ride on K River today.

Boy, has the river come up -- at least 3-4 feet

The beach at the end of the northern run is gone. Not many places anymore to stop for a beer.Plenty of gators out there.

BTW the run is 18 miles each way from the ramp to as far as you can go north. The current was rippin -- especially way up there. We took it slow because a RXT was in break in.

After the north run, we went back to the ramp and had lunch, locked through and did a bunch of twisties south of the lock. Hey Mark, I think we found the brochure pictures. In some of those canals the water was glass and the reflection off the water was beautiful.

Can't go all the way to the tree on the tree run. Too many lilly pads.

Sorry I don't have any pictures, but BartenderSmalley has a few.

Thanks for a great ride guys.

    AWESOME ride today.

Eric - thanks for taking the lead for most of the day and being the tour guide. I didn't want anyone getting left behind or lost. Thanks.

Gators?? What gators?? HOLY MOLY - lots of em. But they kept to themselves and wisely so did we.

The 'between the locks' runs were some of the best I have seen. We found one run that was like a postcard - don't ever remember seeing that one before but VERY glad we found it.

Just a few photos - I didn't take that many today, we basically ran and ran and ran. My GPS showed 74.71 miles on the day.

Eric was nice enough at the end of the day to let Ryan run the GPR-SHO and I don't think Ryan wanted to give it back...started asking me about "father son build projects...." Yea, right.

Great pics. Hopefully you can figure out how to get the videos up.

Glad Ryan had fun on the GPR. I think you did too.

We actually found some really scenic trails last time...I think we rode up every trail between the nasty lady lock & the one just N of the secret ramp. That pic isn't on the SFWMD site anymore, but I remember the river was surrounded by huge cypress. Anyone up for joining me on a recon run next weekend starting from the ramp I scoped @ SR60(next to River Ranch)? It looks like a much longer ride with only one lock to cross before hitting the N end of the closure. I'll probably just do a day trip, but if we have extra time we can also go N of 60 & check out the lake chain & the section of the K river between Lk K & Lk Hatchineha.
