Craziest thing I have ever seen!!

Ok so here is the senerio!

Go down to the river after I got back from the beach yesterday. Ski ran great at beach.

Fire it up on the trailer just to make sure it starts as I always do (5 seconds max). it IMMEDIATLY goes to WOT BY ITSELF!!! I yank the lanyard and it still runs, I turn the key, IT STILL RUNS, I PANIC AND YANK ALL 3 PLUG WIRES AND ITS STILL RUNNING AT WOT!!! I finally pinch off the fuel line to kill it. Motor is now BLAZING HOT. I immediatly pull all 3 plugs and make sure it didnt seize. I let it cool a solid 30 min before I reinstall the plugs and dunk it and and start it again. RUNS FINE! WTF!!!

"pre-ignition?" AKA "Deiseling" I have never seen anything like this!!
    HELP?

Sounds like an air leak. Next time try pulling the choke and it should stop.

Need to find the air leak, it will cause a holed piston or total engine deto.

Check your compression and look at the piston crowns. Check for lean condition in one of the cylinders (dark dry piston crown)

most likely a shaft seal or base gasket seal loosened

Ps, runs fine in water (under load) is normal for a small air leak. The load of the water prevents the runnaway

No choke. Has Primer. I think I may have "over Primed" usually only 1 squirt but hit it 3 times cause it was hard to start. Took it to a local shop today to have Carbs redone.

ok, then next time prime the crap out of it and flood it out.

Run away is caused by to much air, not to much fuel. Remember the carbs work by changing the relative amount of air, not fuel in the mix. The fuel pump and jets can only push so much fuel into the throat (yes I know this changes with engine speed and vacumm pressure on the fuel pump), but the throttle body opens the air intake allowing for that fuel to be consumed to produce power

Yea, I should have thought of that, but at the time i wasnt thinkin. Just picturing the motor going BOOM! I was waiting for a rod to come snashing through the bottom of the hull! LOL. I can laugh about it now I guess but at the time I was PISSED!!!! Thank GOD it didnt happen out on the water. Im not sure what I would have done! I Guess just aim for the beach and BAIL!!! LOL

In general, you will not get a run away on the water. not with load on the impeller.
