    fuel for our ski's

    what experiances has anybody had in regards to : new blended alcohol (10%)super unleaded , reg premium unleaded , race gas . has anyone noticed a decline in performance with the new gas ?...my truck (5.7hemi) is getting about 1 mpg lower since the new blended alcohol gas. my buddy put in some race gas and swears he slowed down(ultra 150 w/mods),so im confused as normal...

    Race gas is too high in octane and burns slower than pump gas. You want it to burn fast, but too fast and it detonates and too slow, well not enough power.
    And yes my duramax went down 1 mpg, but I also put 285's on it (245's stock).

    My hemi gets 14mpg no matter what gas I put into it! Only thing I noticed is that when I rub 5-30 its get better mileage than with the 10-30.

    Race gas is used to resist detonation, therefore you are able to increase the timming and compression. Race gas does burn slower. 87 octane actualy produces more power then 93, but you cannot control the rate at which it burns. As mentioned before, if it burns to fast then you get spark knock. If it burns to slow then you loose power.

    I blend some Xylene with my 93 octane to get it to 94-95. Mixing this with the gasohol caused a reaction and swelled my carb. diaphragms.

    Another lesson learned.
