WTB: RXP Valve Set 05+ or Ferrea
I am reworking an 04 RXP and have read enough about valve drops in that year to concern me. I don't really want to spend the new price tag for Ferrea valves, but would consider a used set. Also, would consider VG condition late model year stock valve set because I understand they are more reliable.
PM me if you have something ..........

I am sure you want 06+

Yep, but to be honest - it is really kind of difficult for me to decide how to make the head really reliable without going full out. Some seem to say the 04 valve float issue is more retainers/keepers than the valves. All they have to do is drop to pop the heads off right.
Full blown is Ferrea + new keepers + new retainers (train upgrade). Given the fact that I am not going to heavily mod - I was looking for a budget minded solution to make it reliable. Not sure what to do next. I did find a brand new set of exhaust valves for a reasonable price.

The best head for are boosted motors is a Stock Head with 06 up valves and a Riva valve train upgrade.
If you want more than 8600rpm and go to 8800, Just have the stock 06 up valves lightened. Then you have a 8800rpm head.

If you want reliable and some what fair priced. Stock 06 up valves and stock Springs with Les cookes Ti retainers. That is a awesome set up to 8600Rpm's and no issue's. I have run 04 and 05 valves for 5 years on 2 boats over 140 hours (one was at MB yellow RXP) and no issu'e, but yes the 04-05 had droped some valves. Remember they are hollow! New 06 up are solid.
Stock springs and Les retainers= 8600 limit
Stock Springs, Les retainers, and Les lightened valves or Ferra valves
= 8800 limit!
Riva Valve train Stock valves = 8650
Riva valvetrain and lightened valves or Ferrea valves = 8800+
Hope this helps.
