    2000 xl1200 limited electrical problem

I have a problem with ski, doesn't run, no spark, no meter display, just says START when cranking over, no servo PV motor cycle, no buzzer, engine cranks good and display just says START only, check all connections OK, pulled temp. sensor cranked over and display meter say HI TEMP with buzzer ringing, so looks like some of display meter warnings works, just doesn't power up gages, I think it ether display meter or cdi box? anybody have a guess what it could be? did this twice before at the beginning of the day but only for a couple of minutes and then the display lit up and started and ran all day without problem,

I've seen a few skis have starting issues that ultimately turned out to be a bad kill switch. They get corroded and keep you from starting. Bypass the switch and see if it starts.

Yes, they have lock code, I think it says "lock" when enabled...

Its not locked, crashard showed me how to bypass the display and still no spark, I talked to a yamaha tech and he thinks its the stator, the display gets a signal from the stator to powerup so I ordered a new stator, new starter (the ski is 9 years old the starter is problemly next) and a used electrical cdi box off of ebay, now I hope I have a enough parts.

Had the exact same problem on a 99 xl1200. Same symptoms. After checking the starter relay and start switch, turned out to be the CDI. Found an older post here that led me down that path. Fortunately, I have two more 1200PV skis and pulled the CDI out of a running ski. The 99 fired right up.

I would open the electrical box and double check the starter relay first to make sure it is operating properly. If you can get your hands on a known good CDI before buying one, that would be ideal.

it was the stator, like the yamaha tech said, bought a new stator, and had the exhaust off and put a new starter on to, when i took the oil pump off the mounting housing was broken and pump cable frayed at carbs so I went with premix, 9 year old ski needs a little TLC, Paulie
