    Strange observation

Today I changed out the old gray fuel lines. When done I fired it up to make sure all was right. With the flame arrestor being off I noticed that when I hit the throttle I was getting a misting coming up out of the front carb. It seemed to be running fine, but I never noticed this before?????? Oh yeah, this is a 98 700.

Intake reeds may be failing on that cylinder.

Not too hard to remove the reeds and check.

The Service Manual outlines how to remove the carbs and the intake manifold, to get to the reed cages, which are down at the base of the engine block.

Just keep track of all the nuts and other bits you disconnect, and put them back where they came from

    Misting is normal.

Spitting would be a cause for concern.

Hit the gas and see if the other does it.

I've got new reeds in my ride zzzzzzz and noticed 2 of the 3 were misting.

I did think that was odd, but it winds right up. And I'm 100% they're NEW reeds.

Thanks guys, I think I am going to try to get it out on the water this weekend and see how it runs. It is a 98, but only has 37 hours on it, and it seems to run fine on the hose as well as starting right up.

What are the symptoms of bad reeds?
