    Cracked Engine/Crank Case - Causes??

anyone have thoughts on what could have caused the crank case to break like this?? This is under the exhaust manifold under cylendar #3 where the shaft enters the engine.

Pic is from the PV side.

Is the powervalve still there ? If not could be a piece of the piston skirt or part of a rod etc... May as well remove the cylinders @ this point you need to know if anything there was damaged.

I have the powervalve clips so hopefully that would have prevented a PV from going down that far. I am taking the engine out this week... just waiting on a hoist, but curious of possible causes.

The hole in my crankcase was due to parts of the piston skirt breaking away from the piston and falling to the bottom of the chamber. Then, they were jammed through the casing by the connecting rod on the downstroke.

Get in touch with WFO (Rich). I think I remember that he had some cases.
    Good Luck
