OOPS - drop the thrush washer - 2006 RXP

Didn't reliaze there is a thrush washer on the upper cam sprocket - Must have dropped into the case - does anyone know if it is magnetic or not - So far unable to find it - Taking the motor out tomorrow night if I can't find it.

Let me know - any tricks for my screw up.

I don't recall any thrust washer on the upper cam sprocket. Could you elaborate on where it was located and what it looked like?

I think he means the plate at the far end of the cam, in which case grab a telescopic magnet, and have a fish around inside the hole if fell down.. or any others for that !!

maybe its not in the ngine bear in mind... have a REAL GOOD look around it first.

According to the parts fiche there is a thrush washer that goes between the crankcase breather (tops switch?) and the cam gear - check it out for a 2006. I have a 05 and the breather (tops) thing is at the front. When I was removing the chain to remove the gear to remove the head - I thought I heard a "ting" - I wasn't aware of the washer. I am not certain why there is a plastic cover on the cam gear. maybe to keep from happening what happened? Tomorrow I plan on doing more fishing before I pull motor. Live, wrench and learn. Thanks for the thoughts

    Yes, its the trust plate/washer.

Check it is not sat in the top of the head hidden somewhere.

It is a rectangular piece of metal, ferrous too, so it can be snapped up with a magnetic tool. About 2.5" by 1.25" and prob a quarter thick with a semi circular cut in one of the long edges. It will be in disguise as an engine part, so could well be sat in the top at the moment looking at you..!!

It would have to have been good aiming to get it to drop down into the bottom of the motor due to its size and shape.

I think it is in between the hull and the engine somewhere, maybe sat at the side of the tank.

Maybe even sat on the manifold area, or to the exh side underneath etc.

    Happy hunting..
