Can you Over Grease the Intermediate Housing?

    Noob question?

I just purchased my first waverunner (2005 Yamaha FX HO CRUISER) and am wanting to make sure all maintenance is done as well as I can.

I have no idea if any grease has ever been pumped in the housing or not, so will it hurt anything to put the 30 pumps of grease in. Will it just squeeze out if it dose not need it or will it damage something.

    Thanks

I have had it where it pushed the hose off the nipple down by the base.

    Cool

if you over grease you stand a chance of blowing out mid shaft bearing holder rubber insert

What if I under grease, becouse I don't know what was done in the past. I have noticed the tub is only held on by zip ties top and bottom. I thought of removing the top zip tie and pumping untill the tub comes off the zert fiting. What do ya'll think of this?

I pull the hose off of the housing and pump the grease until I see it coming out of the hose. Most of the time the hose is bone dry. After you see it coming out of the hose, reattach the hose to the housing and give it 4 pumps.

Keep in mind that you're not lubricating the bearings when you do this. You're only filling the cavity with grease to help keep water out.

Definitely! You have to watch the rubber insert...when it starts to slightly bulge, stop adding grease.

The hose leading down to the housing takes approx 1/3rd of the 33 grams required at the 10 hr service. I would remove hose at housing end to see if there is any grease there. Removing seat transom gives good access.

If no grease, then clean hose of all grease, replace & start again....33 grams.

If grease present at bottom, then I would add 3 lots of 7grams........each at 15 to 20 hr intervals.

As long as you pump grease in SLOWLY any excess will just flow past seals, as the seal lips face outward. Just remember..........SLOWLY!
