    Engine Rebuild Help/Suggestions

Hi guys - I will be starting my 1st engine rebuild this weekend. I know I have a cracked case so that is going to need replaced. I will know better what is needed on the bottom end once I get it out (hopefully tonight).

My question is since I will have the engine out and it has 110 hours on it, should I just go ahead and do full rebuild (top and bottom)?

If I send the head out to get milled (increase compression), what else do I need to do? My current compression is 110, 120, 102.

Should I go ahead and do the whole thing?

I have seen rebuild kits. I should probably get one of those, but what else? Send the crank out to be trued? etc.

Thanks for your input and sugguestions.

If funds allow, I'd redo the whole thing. Send the crank out for inspection/repair, have the cylinders cleaned up, do the carbs (assuming you have carbs), replace all the gaskets, etc. Peace of mind.

If the cases are busted, I assume the crank is trashed also. So definitely a new bottom end, you need to get a good look at the cylinders before you decide how far to go with this. Personaly I stay away from any kits, buying the right parts will save you down the road. OEM gaskets are the best, just buy what you need. The crank and case are going to be your big ticket items so far.

Any suggestions on where to get crank and case? I did not see them available at 4-tech.

Should I send my crank out (110 hours) or buy new (trued/welded).

The case seems very thin. Should I consider a used case??

    Thanks for input

Definitely try and find a used case much cheaper. Get the crank out first to see how bad it is, might be able to send it to crankworks for rebuild if it is not trashed too bad. You still have a lot of investigation to do before you finalize your needs. Get that thing torn down and post pics of what you find.
