MSX 110 intercooler out of order

    Hi everybody,

I run my ski last saturday, after the break period, for the first time.

I just want to let you know what happened (could help someone to check his ski before having the same problem as me).

I was running with my ski ( the ski was working normal but very slow max speed 30mph), after 10 minuts of riding, a particular noise came from the engine, like a part was moving alone (a mettalic noise), i decided to stop and check the engine compartment nothing wrong, no water inside ...

Decided to go another time try riding, I was leaving the bay when the engine began to run on only 1 cylinder, so i decided to stop riding and to take my ski home: to check what was the problem!

I was thinking that a plug was dead...

When i came back home, and pull off the plugs, the one on the rear cylinder was bent. I thought that piston had touch the plug ( for what reason, it wasn't clear).

after 4 hours of working to take the inlet pipes, I have found a bit of copper on the inlet pipe. (i'll make some pictures for you)

This part of copper, came from the intercooler ( it's a 110 one), and a bit of the copper seams to have entered the rear cylinder.

I don't know exaclty what are the damages, i have to finish to take the engine out and to open it!! (very bad luck)

What i know, is that the copper part comes from the intercooler, it's a deflector that is used to flow the air on the tubes of the intercooler.

Last year, I used to run with a 150 Ecu, maybe it's the root cause with corrosion?

Nota: I hope my english is not too bad.

This is the picture of the bits of intercooler that were in my intake.

A small bit was found on the rear cylinder ( maybe that's why the spark plug was bent?)

Piston and cylinder seems to be in very good condition.

yeah I have seen those msx 110 intercooler come apart. some times it can be caught in time and cause no damage and other times it causes damage. get out any debris you can and compression check and do a leakdown test on both of the cylinder to see if any substantial damage was done.

Thank you Jay for your help.

I was not sure what was the reason the plug was bent: so i open my engine, the engine is out and open!

Going to check valves seats and others controls before reclosing the engine.

The two cylinders seem to be clean ( picture tomorrow).

I 'll do compression check when engine in the hull!

Start by asking Jay (4strokepolaristech) or Randy at Watcon - see if either of them can supply what you need, or point you in the right direction.
