    Mixing & Matching 04/05 & 06+ heads and blocks.

Based on the info below, It appears all that is needed to upgrade the cyl head to 07 oiling (Or when using a block without an oil jet) is to change the rocker arm shaft. I see no reason 04/05 and 06+ rocker arms themselves cannot be interchanged. Can anyone confirm or deny this through experience? I haven't run it like this yet, but am about to. I have an 05 motor I just put together with no oil jet, and an 07 rocker arm shaft. All other parts are from the 05 motor.

I've done some comparisons between the rocker arms, and the rocker arm shafts on 04/05 motors VS. 06+ motors. Anyone who has mixed head/block years knows that the cyl head oil flow regulator was moved from a jet in the block in 04/05 to using a smaller hole in the rocker arm shaft in 06+ motors. I took apart 2 heads, and compared the 05 rocker arms, and rocker arm shaft, with the 07 rocker arm shaft, and rockers, and didn't notice any differences other then the rocker arm oil feed hole being smaller. The 06+ rocker arms themselves have a slightly boxier exterior shape than the 04/05 rocker arms. However there are no fitment issues caused because of this, and there are no fitment issues when swapping hem between different year heads. Looking more closely at the rocker arm shafts themselves, all other holes in the rocker arm, other than the oil flow regulator are located, and sized identically to that of its 2005 counterpart. So based on this, I see no reason to change anything but the rocker arm shaft when using a block with no oil jet.

Any and all comments/suggestions/experiences are appreciated!

Im running a 04 block with an 07 head and havent had any troubles. The 04 oil jet is still in place as well.

    is this a concern?

definitely! your head is being starved for oil I would think? Since its running trough 2 restrictors instead of just one. you'll want to remove that oil jet, or use an 04/05 rocker arm shaft asap.

Only if you are using a 06+ rockershaft.

Ok guys i put the 04 rocker shaft back in but i found out some interesting things.

The oil feed hole in the 07 shaft is 2mm and the hole in the 04 shaft is 6mm i think.

But the hole in the actual head where it goes in to the shaft is only 4mm. This is an 07 head but whats the point in running the 04 shaft if the main restrictor is 4 mm.

Should i be running without the jet and run the 07 shaft?

Whats the oil feed size on a 04 head?

Despite some contradiction on compatibility on parts, I have used 04-05 blocks with late heads, rocker shaft and NO oil jet. I see no problems, but now I read the oil passage in the head may be different. Can someone confirm this with a pic? I may check it out myself as I have 3 heads, I THINK 1 is a 04..........the others are 07.

I need some info also as I have an 08 head still in a box waiting to go on my 05 block. From what others have posted you just have to remove the oil restrictor from the 04/05 block and you're GTG.
