    There are two stop buttons on your 2000 Virage TX;

    - One button is the Start/Stop combination button

    - The second button is the safety lanyard button, which turns the engine off when the lanyard cord is pulled away.

    Which button does NOT turn the engine off?

    Is this picture the same as your Virage TX?

    The 2000 Virage TX uses the LR-505 Start/Stop regulator module in the electrical box. It senses the Start/Stop button being pressed while the engine is running, and voltage appears on the Black/White wire to the LR-505 module. The LR-505 module then grounds the Black/Yellow wire, which tells the CDI to stop spark.

    The safety lanyard switch directly grounds the Black/Yellow wire when the lanyard is pulled out, and this stops the CDI spark.

    I suggest you open the electrical box, and check that all wires are properly connected. Check the Black/Yellow wires.

    I want to be sure I understand you correctly.

    The engine will start and run normally, but the safety lanyard cord will not stop the engine when it is pulled out. Do I understand this correctly?

    If the engine will not stop, you need to open the electrical box. It is sealed with several screws holding the lid on. Remove the screws, and open the box.

    Look for wires that are Black color with a Yellow stripe. These are the wires that stop the engine.

    Look for a broken wire, or a loose connection in the Black/Yellow wires.

    Also check all the Black wires. They should all be connected together.

    Take the Black/Yellow wire the goes into the CDI, and directly short it to black (ground). Does that stop the engine?
