Question What the difference between the 785 pro, and the SLX 780 (1996)

I would like to increase the hp on my SLX780 (1996) I noticed that Polaris made the SLX785 pro. The hp difference is 90+(SLX780) and 135(785 Pro). The SL900 only produces 100+ from the manual. So where are they getting the extra 40 some hp from the 780 to the 785 pro.

    This is what I know.

785 has valves for increased efficiency and more hp.
785 is obviously bored out more then the 780.
785 i think had slightly bigger carbs (44mm)

What else is there??? Any help would be great. Thanks

The 785 is the same bore as a 750 with a longer stroke and revs to 7800 rpm with power valves and triple pipes.

    Yeppers ^^^^^^^^^^

Pipes, Pipes, Pipes = triple pipes

    The supercharger of 2 strokes

The exhaust valves increase efficiency. Torque & HP

The 44mm carbs increase top end

    Better, more agressive timing

    Slightly more displacement

Ability to turn almost 8000 RPM safely.....

    Makes all the difference.

LOL nice cartoon. So if i were to build a 785 out of my 780, I would need a 785 engine basically lol. I could with the 44mm carbs, cdi, reeds, triple pipe and ????

Also, what exactly is a triple pipe, I have heard the term thrown around here alot. I just finish my top end rebuild of my 780 and well to put it simple wrenching is an addiction for me.

    You cannot build a 785 from a 780 within a reasonable amount of $$$.

You can only buy a 785. Then modify it to fit your hull. PITA!!!!

Better off buying a PRO 785 and be done with it.

Not what is a triple pipe?

    What are triple PIPES???

Yeah I didnt think I could build a 785. I am just trying to get ideas for the off season as far as mods. Are there triple pipes for the 780? I know i can find i nice set of used 44mm carb which I believe you have for sale lol and reeds new from a parts dealer like Zig.

Actually that pic IS my 780!!!!! OK, 795cc (780 bored to 72mm)

Oh yeah, triples are around for your SLX. You need to have some $$ ready when they pop up.

Thanks Al!!!! Those are your/Sea Lions old pipes!!!!

    Thanks again buddy.....

Triple pipes are supposed to gain almost 30 HP. (your 780 makes 92+) So, that is huge to say the least.

Add the 44's with a good set of reeds and you should gain 8-10 MPH.

My ride zzzzzzz has only seen 57.6 MPH so far, but Lake Erie is usually rough, so i haven't been able to max her out....

Hoping to be close to 62 MPH.

Price depends. I've seen incomplete sets run for $350ish, and some near $500.

Not cheap at all. But if you want to play, you got to $$$$$$$.

That's why it's cheaper to buy a bigger boat that does 60 MPH than try to make a 50 MPH DO 60.
