    951 exhaust evelope seal.

my 2002 GTX 951 Di does not have the rubber external thingy (parts catalog calls it envelope) on the exhaust pipe where it bolts to the exhaust manifold. What does this do and is it needed?

I think it just incase it springs a leak the water does'nt spray all over the engine. You can run without. But i allways put it back on.

Commonly called a "diaper". Just a bit of insurance since so many 951 owners got burned by failure at this joint.

Ok i guess I got something else to order....

Your ski was an o-ring to seal the exhaust header pipe to the manifold. The diaper fix was for the earlier models (98-2000) that used a gasket to seal the exhaust header to the manifold. You really don't need the diaper for your ski.

Yeah, but you'll note that they continued to install them on all 951 skis. For $8.00, it's still a good thing to have - cheap insurance to avoid a top-end rebuild, or worse.

FWIW, the engine has a neater, more finished look with it on there. And, it could not hurt...

if you have aftermarket flame arrestors it's needed more than ever! if the rubber seal should leak it will get the carbs wet then you're screwed.

I agree for 8.00 its alot less then having to replace a top end.
