    New Handlebars Questions:

    Hello everyone,

I've read Abbott's post on swapping bars, and bought some Pro Tapers to swap with my stock ones. I have 2 questions for those that have already been through this process -

    1. Did you use ATV or MX bend bars? I bought ATV bend, and they hook back further than the stockers. Thinking about returning and swapping for the MX; just wondered what bend you guys are using?

    2. Regarding the trim - Abbott shows cutting the grip on the trim side, then replacing with another grip - can you just slide the trim assembly INCLUDING the stock grip off the stock bars, and slide the entire thing onto the new bars? Then just replace the throttle side grip with a stocker? I'm wondering if I don't understand how the system works, or are you all using new grips because they're better/more comfortable/etc?

    Thanks guys!

I used MX bars Honda CR bend

Abbott will chime in on this but I believe you have to modify the trim grip assembly to make it fit the bars.

    Get the MX bars.

McGrath, Larocco, Windham, Carmicheal, Jimmy Button, CR hi & lo bend are all variations of the original honda bar.

Watcon carries Moose bar ends. http://www.watcon.com/Catalog_Pages/Oct_Bar_Ends.htm

Thanks for the answers guys; it looks like I can just leave the stock grip on the trim if I want, and get a replacement grip for the throttle side.

I'll definitely be swapping the ATV for the MX bend bars - the ATV bars bend back so much more than the MX, they don't make sense for me.

    1) Absolutly
    2) Stock Grip Is attached to the plastic PVC below it --it's all one piece. So you are forced to cut the rubber grip off of the PVC and you need the PVC in order to move the trim, so be careful not to damage the PVC in any way. I wish too, that there was an easier way. I am about to do a third boat and will take more pictures.

Dont forget to roughen (smooth out actually) up the aftermarket bars on the "left" handle bar if it has the grooves in it (those will need to be smoothed out in order to slide the OEM piece over it).
    Hope this helps.
