    Piston and rings question

Is it important to have the same manufactured rings as who manufactured the pistons? I need to replace the rings and was told this.
If it is, how do I identify who made the pistons?
    Thanks for any help.

I am pretty sure that this is true.

If you look on the inside of the piston you may see who made it. OE pistons say "Made in Austria," at least, they do on 947s.

Do you have reason to believe they are not stock?

They also have the piston diameter stamped on the OEMs.

No, no reason to believe it's not stock, but being a 1995 model and only having it less than a year, I have no idea if the engine has been replaced. Is there a way to tell? All I know is one ring broke and I was on the phone ordering it and was asked if it was OE, I had no idea.
What is the worst that could happen?

Was the paint on the head cover bolts intact?

Well, I didn't pay that much attention, but with the scuff marks and dirtiness from the previous owners' everyday wear and whatnot from the past years, I'd say no the paint was not intact.
But I have a new development now. The bore measurement is 78.50 or 3.091, which tells me that it has been bored to .50 over.
So now I'm searching parts on the net, for only the rings again and I'm not finding any oversized - only the standard 78.0 or 3.071 (original size).
Any suggestions? New pistons and rings?

Rotax did make a .5mm over piston for the 657 so they could still be stock.

I am not sure what he could have been doing to mess up the paint on the head bolts other than taking them off. That said, they obviously were off since you have oversize pistons in there.

FYI, it is not much more expensive to get pistons and rings than it is just the rings, if it has Rotax pistons, that is. You may have to pull a piston off the positively identify them. Is there a size number stamped into the top of the piston?
