    Another 800 grate cracked

guy i know we have all seen the 800's and how they crack blar blar..but ive posted this one as it was not visible untill i cleaned it up ready for refitting...
opened the bolt hole up today at work so i could swap out the ss 800 and while there i thought i would have a polish up with wet n dry, this crack was only visible when i started cleaning it on the bench,
yes its right through the wing and i assume where all the others crack..
i do a pre ride inspection when i use this and believe me it would not of shown up from a unbolt and visual..
keep your eye on the boys...

That intake has seen better days.
I remember when some of those guys broke their 800 grates. If you ride and your boat is sturdy all the time then your good to go. But if you feel that ackwardness of it starting to porpoise or buck, let off the gas. My ski use to stay pretty stable in the water until you got below half a tank of gas. Now with full tank it porpoises (ss800) which I am trying to fix, but point is I think those guys said they started porpoising and it progressed to worse before it broke.

That is in exactly the same spot they all crack. I've got two at home that look just like that.

    800 grates

    Hey Guys,
Just curious! is it just the R&D grates or is it the Riva 800 grates also,,,reason im asking is,if its just the R&D ones,is it possible that the thick black powder coating that is on Rivas could be preventing them from cracking.

I doubt it. I had a riva 1200 (new) with the powder coating after running it for a couple weeks I took off the powder coat to find a crack same as the 800

imho its not worth the risk of running a r&d 800 on a GPR, the chance of failure is just too high.

thank god you found it before it found you Paul.
