Unhappy limp mode, oil light troubles.. 780 slx

hi guys, im new to jet skis but not motors...
my fuel sending unit is crap and has set my 780
into limp mode so i unplugged the + wire inside the waterbox
then unhooked the + battery cable over night.
today i rode it and it is was still in limp mode.
so i unhooked the - side of the battery and no change.
how do i get it outta limp mode???
could i possibly lock the float in the up position somehow,
or am i missing something simple?
itll only do 4150 RPMs and 28 mph so far...bout half throttle
also while testing it today, the oil light came on a couple times...
it registered 3 or 4 bars while it was on, then it jumps to
5 or 6 bars and goes off....im guessing its the sensor....
should i switch to pre-mix just to b safe or is this normal?
    thx ....zimmmy

    Welcome to the Hulk Zimmyjims!
The 96 slx only had a 4200 rpm limp mode for over heat and low fuel. Low oil would only set off the warning on the mfd. Are you sure thats the only warning being displayed?
You can find the service manual for your ride here.

the limp mode was caused by the fuel guage....the oil warning just showed up today...its not the cause of the limp mode problem....z

Ah! My bad. I over looked that. You can pull the sending unit in the tank. Pull the bottom cap on the sender and pull the float. Then place it in a cup of gas and see if it sinks. If it sinks it needs to be replaced, as they become logged with fuel. Watcon has the replacement floats.

    Welcome to the Hulk.

Make sure the electrical box is free from rust and all connections are good. Limp mode triggers the gray CDI wire to ground. Try disconnecting the gray wire and see if it helps then fix why it was happening.

the electric box looks fine inside except for what im assuming is dielectric grease on everything....otherwise its clean and water free....
ill try the grey wire assuming its not the one i already unplugged, and ill check out the float if i can get the gas tank out enough to remove the sender....its really tight in there.........
ill let u know how it goes....thx guys ...z
