Question: do you need to remove impeller to replace wear ring?

I have an 02 GTX 4-tec with a Plastic Housing. When I remove the housing do I need to remove the impeller to replace the wear ring??

    Just trying to cut corners.

Throw the whole pump assembly into the freezer..Let it sit in there for a good couple hours..Then see if the wear ring wont pop out..This is what we do with the cast pumps...Then to get the new ring in put just the ring in the freezer for a couple hours and then slide it into the pump assembly..

Ya, will try that... and since it fits around the impeller no need to remove.

You should not need to remove the impeller UNLESS it groved the wear ring..then that might be an issue..

It's no big deal removing impeller, if wear ring doesn't just pull out, use die grinder and make 1 cut. Push new wear ring in, or put a board on it and hit it. not too hard. This whole process should take about 30 min.

no need to remove impeller, freeze the pump, or cut out the wear ring. there are two small screws on top and two on bottom that hold the wear ring in. once you remove the screws the wear ring will pull right out. you will need to carefully drill holes in the new wear ring for the screws. be sure to fully seat the wear ring before drilling the holes and try not to drill all of the way through, it may be easier for you to make marks on the ring by slightly drilling then pull the wear ring back out to do the final drilling but if you do this make sure the ring doesn't shift so the holes are in phase with each other. don't use too big of a bit and make sure the holes are deep enough to keep the screws from bottoming out. no guessing here, done it many times....
