    Help: XLT1200 Wont go

I have a 2004 XLT1200 that I put a new motor in. When I start it, it will idle but when I give it gas it stalls. After repeated starts it will accelerate to about 4000 RPM. If I pull the choke and hit the accelerator it sometimes will be fine. After this, and it warms up a little it is fine and runs and idles great. It sounds like a fuel problem to me. Any ides what may be causing this?

I have this thing sold, but I can't let it go until I solve this problem.

    John

sounds like a fuel problem possibly, did you rebuild the carbs when you did the motor?

regardless of them being supplied with a rebuilt motor, it is by no means a proof they are in proper working order and you sound like your starving for fuel.

carbs are funny beasts and they MUST be setup right or your ski will never run right, trust me i know because i have been there myself

let me guess its an sbt motor package or something?

This is not a rebuilt motor. I bought it new on the original pallet. It had everything including Carbs, Pipes, Electronics, and Cables. I had never been installed in a ski.

It runs great, once it gets going. The plugs are nice and tan.

the fact that it falls on it's face and dies when you try to take off is SCREAMING that it's running lean. Forget looking at the plugs for now.
    -air leaks?
    -fuel lines hooked up right?
-accelerator pump hooked up and working?

What do you mean by this?

What I do not understand is that after it goes the first time it will run great for the rest of the day. Starting and stopping many times. It does not have a problem until it is shut down and cools down.

I decided to take the carbs off. I took the 2 bolts off each carb and they do not come off. Do you need to take all of the bolts that hold the reeds to remove the cars? What am I missing? It looks impossible? Please help I am getting really frustated. Who ever designed these things should be forced to repair them.
