My boat keeps eating wear rings.

Started off with a new wear ring and it went bad again with in maybe 2 hrs. Pulled it out and ONLY the bottom was chewed up so the dealer thought it was the pump so we put a whole new pump and wear ring in got one quick run in befor it was to cold to go out and now that its spring i have had the boat out and i just looked at the wear ring and it look all chewed up but evenly all the way around but only have maybe 15hrs on the ring. Any idea why this is happening? My channel is really weedie but im thinking more along the lines of bad pump bearings???

Bad pump bearing and or motor alignment would be the first few things I would check

An un-balanced prop can cause this also. 3 blades are really bad for this.

This problem came out of know where so i cant see it being motor alignment and i have a 4 blade. Now i can say i know the dealer reused the pump bearings when they changed the pump and boat has over 100+hrs on it. NO MORE dealers. doing the work my self from now on im just to picky to trust them.

here some pics they suck and so does my camera but you can still "kinda" see where its worn if you look close.

By those pics... it looks like your drive shaft is not seated all the way into the prop..

ya but what would cause that? i know what your talking about i noticed that thin part of the driveshaft sticking out when i took the pic but at the time didnt think much of it. from the tip of the black cone to the thick part of the drive saft it's almost an inch?

The only thing that could really cause that... is broken motor mounts, or your motor shifted forward on the mounts for some reason... Thats considering the pump is installed correctly... Are you taking on any water?????

Nope no problems with taking on water and i leave it in the water overnight on weekends. there alway about a cup of water in the bottom cause there so many nooks for water to hid it never really drys out between uses. ill be sure to checkout the mounts tomorrow.

By the looks from the pics... I would say the motor has shifted forward, but generally when this happends you will have leaks around the carbon seal... While your checking the mounts... check the tension on the accordion boot.
