780 cylinder exchange for my 750

I was given a 95 sl 750 by a friend, he took the clyinders off, and removed the pistons, he was going to replace the pto piston that basically melted away from the bottom. During a recent move he misplaced the pistons and rings. My questions are : 1. Is there a way for me to determine if the bottom end is good with the rest of the motor apart? 2. The cylinders are probobly useable but I do not want to take any chances, If the bottom end is good I was thinking I might purchase a SBT 780 cylinder exchange that way I know all parts are good. 3. Can I put a 780 top end on a 750, if so what else do I have to do(different jetting, carbs, air cleaners)? any help would be appreciated thanks TIM

    Welcome to the Hulk!
Yes you can put the 780 cyls on the 750. You would need to re-jet the carbs and get the exhaust manifold from a 780.
To really do a good inspection of the crank, you would need to open the case to remove the crank. It's not that big of a deal to do so.
Crank inspection info is found on pg. 292 of the factory manual that can be found here.

SBT is not highly regarded around here.
John Zigler is highly recommended for all your part needs new and used.

I have personally been Screwed By Them and believe SBT will only exchange 750 for 750 and 780 for 780 last I knew anyway. I just stay away. Enough said

You'd be correct. They will only exchange 750 for 750, etc...

    I have some heads.

I found an exhaust manifold and pipe for the 780. He's a bit pricey on the shipping. Ask if he'll sell just the manifold, as you can use your pipe. He also has a 780 jug and head for sale. Ask for better pics of the cyl walls. Also ask if the manifold bolts are available.

Are triple pipes available for this setup? Is it worth the money

I've got a 780 exhaust manifold with the bolts if interested.

Yes triples are available for 650 (why???) 750, and 780.

You'll need to find a set as they are somewhat rare. Only made by PSI, and were $2000 in 1994.

There were a few sets for sale last year, so there's some out there, you need to look and have some $$$ ready when you do find them.

Are they worth it???? It depends on what you're looking for.

It's actually cheaper to buy a bigger ski, than it is to build up a triple piped, heavily modded 780.
