How freely does shaft spin in pump?

I have a stock 2006 pump on my GPR. Just changed the OEM grease to the slurry suggested by Hydrotoys in one of the threads. Seems to spin a little worse now, but I am not sure if that is just my subjective view.

How freely does the pump usually spin?

If you hold it by the shaft and give it a good spin, how many rotations would you get?

Mine does not offer resistance per say, but it does not spin much either.

(Torqued the nut inside of the impeller cone to the stock specs also).

open up pump cone, remove old grease, fill cone half way with the new stuff.

There is always some resistance from the pump seals and oil or grease.Every pump i built spun free till the seals and grease/oil were put in. Thats even using grease on the seals. Dont over torque the back nut on the rear shaft either.

i got into this myself lasty year and wanted to know how many times the pump would spin if your holding the shaft with just the pump housing attached (no prop)....

after pulling a few of my buddys pumps out of a rangs of year gpr's inc my two which run a 50/50 mix oil/grease i found that with a good hard spin the housing will turn 4-5 time on a good pump...before anyone jumps on me saying wtf way of measuring is that, its not a way its just a good indication of free running bearings...

I run race gas! Oh wait...wrong question.

If it's real hard to spin make sure the impellor is'nt binding either. If you did'nt remove the bearings you should be fine...don't over-torque the rear nut.

I put together a brand new pump, pressed the bearings, spacer etc...it was little tight when I was through but it eventually loosened up.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to have to check mine again and see how many times it rotates... I think it was going about 2-3 by my count.
