Rear oil dipstick on 04 r12?

I apologize in advance as I'm sure this is a silly question. My manual shows a rear dipstick as well as the one in the front tank. When I remove my rear plug there is nothing attached to it... just a cap. Is this just for the r12x or is mine missing something?

It's just a plug. You use the front dipstick to check the oil in the rear.. It doesn't screw down.

Make sure the ski is level (by the valve cover).

The oil is a bit tricky to check on these.

I don't know about the 04, but the 02 has instructions that says to use the front dipstick on the rear in the event that no oil shows on the front dipstick. There is a photo of using that dipstick on the rear of the ski.

Here's an 05 manual.. It mentions "dipstick" -but the dipstick is not shown in the photo for the rear...

Yeah, Mine shows the same picture, however a couple of pages earlier (125) it has the same picture.. this time with a dipstick attached to the cap. Anyway thanks for reinforcing what "thought" I already knew. I used to go to PWC forum but this site is much more helpful. Thanks again.

    Rear Dipstick

Another tip is to drill a small hole thru the top of the rear cap and attach a string to it then tie it to something up at the top of the rear area. You WILL drop that puppy and have a he** of a time getting it back. Just do this and another problem is solved before it happens. Just a tip from your uncle earl, LOL!
