    96 sl780 rev limiter?

Hello i have 96 sl780 it will only run about 20-28 mph and will not go above 4000 rpms. I was looking around on here and found some talk about this gray wire? And Lr-54 module. I opened mine up and i have 2 gray wires. One dark gray and one light gray. What wire do i disconnect. Also where is the LR-54 module?. Thank you for any help. Also the mfd shows full gas and almost full oil. also shows rpms and speed. the red light does not come on. Inless the mfd is wakeing up. thanks again.

The LR54 should be right next to the LR23 in the elect box. 97 didn't have the LR54, just the 23. Are you missing the 54? Could you have the 97 sl780 instead? What's the part# you have on the cdi? 78w97 like in the pic or 78w96?
You pull the grey from the cdi for testing only.

Pull the grey from the cdi (ign. module) at the circuit board.

Lots of good trouble shooting info in the manual that you can down load from here.

    Your very welcome!
The 54 could be bad. Look at the schematics in the manual, and you may find that you can rewire it to the 97 sl780 specs and delete the LR-54, as the 97 didn't have one.

I just looked at the schematics, and bypassing the 54 is doable. You just need to tie the cdi grey to the tan from the mfd (display) and disconnect the 54.

A pic of what? The box of a 97? Or the schematics? The schematics are in the back of the manual listed by model and yr.
Click >>Here<< to down load the manual.
