    97 gp1200 project

    Hi
I am new to this forum and it was recomended by a friend. On wednesday I bought a 1997 gp1200 and have just started digging into it. The guy I bought it from said it was an electrical problem but we found the engine had been filled with water and the pistons had rusted in place. I have removed the head and got the two front pistons free but the rear cylinder is being a pain. I am looking to get it running and see what I got for the money. As for the moment the only upgrades i have planned is a new ride plate, paint all of the red plastic to match my truck, replace the seat covers, and install hydroturf. I am on a limited budget being as I start college in september. Any recomendations, coments would be greatly appreciated. Also does anyone have a hatch cover, mine is missing.
If anyone could please tell me how to post photos I will, i took them but have no clue how to upload them.
    thanks

Yes, welcome. I just bought a 97 GP1200 last tuesday. Mine is in a little better shape than yours it sounds like. Some parts are hard to come by but the engine parts should all be easy to come by.

Jet-trim makes some nice seat covers.
Maybe also look at Flame Arrestors (the air filters) they will help your ski breath better as your stock air box is very restrictive.

Here are some of the pics. last night, I was able to get all the pistons free and found the wristpin on the rear piston was seized. With some wd40 I was able to get it free again. The engine is ready to come out so I can give the inside a good scrubbing, The rust in the cylinders is only surface rust and there is no pitting so I might be able to get away with just honing them.

Yeah if you can get those rings for that price il pay you when u get them. im interested in the ride plate, what brand and how mutch. ordered two gasket sets today. The pistons in there should be good enough becuase they only have 15 hours on them.
