Getting Skis for Local law Enforcement

The local police department lost its 2 jet skis due to budget cuts. They still have a nice patrol boat but skis are better for Port and maritime festival security.

Has anyone tried to get PWC sponsorship for local law enforcement? Is there a tangible PR benefit to the sponsor that is worth anything?

When I was in the Fire Service, we got 2 new ones each year for free from the dealer/manufacturer for water rescue.

Most dealerships do a one year lease for a $1. They sell the ski's used after the year and write the loss of on their taxes as it is a donation. Guess it depends on how many departments have their hands out. More than likely they lost the funding for the officers and fuel. The officers assigned to the ski's are usually working on their off days.

Thanks for the input. Here in WA state we have miles of lakes and coastal waters that must be patrolled. PWCs are ideally suited. Good point NC that its not just access to skis, its cuts in personnel and expenses (like fuel). Thats a tough problem to fix.

The other thing is that local PDs prior deal included 2 Yamaha skis & maintenance for 1 year. They had to have maintenance provided. I think that makes it a much tougher deal to put together.

But I'm going to continue to look into the issue and welcome any other comments.

Honda has supported the $1 lease program on their Aquatrax, not sure it exists after 2009. Kawasaki and Yamaha have what is called the "law Loan Program'.
Agencies are responsible for maintenance, damage and repairs during the course of the loan.
The loan program is voluntary for participating dealerships, it is not manadatory. You can enlist the law loan program outside of your county as well, the dealership doens't have to be in your neighborhood.
Trailers are not supported nor is any other PPE or gear or training.
A letter from the agency is presented to the particpating dealer, then the process begins.

Local Police and Fire get new loaners every year here from the local Yamaha dealer. Not sure what Kawasaki, Honda or Sea Doo offers.
