03 GTX SC help / advice.
Went riding today with a buddy who just got a very well used 03 GTX SC. It runs good but cosmetically is a little rough and there is a lot of corrosion on the valve cover and ride plate, this thing has spent most of its life in salt water.
When you go WOT from a stop it feels like something is slipping / cavitating until it catches then takes off but not as strong as I expected from a 185HP ski. Top speed seems down as well. From a stop my 98 GTXL would get a four boat lead and hold it, the SC could not even catch up. I expected mine to get the jump then the SC should have run me down and passed me. We are going to pull the pump and check the impeller / wear ring, is there any other stuff we should be looking at ? I'm not familiar with the 4Tecs, yet.

yep probably time to repalce the accordion boot and carbon ring.
sand down the rideplate to smooth aluminum or replace, if its too corroded and starts to leak when you sand it.
what rpm's are you getting at WOT.
should be 7500 to 7650.
you are probably cavitaiting.
maybe SC slipping also, but those are 2 separate issues.
2003 had a plastic pump that would warp under heavy accelration, wear out the wear rings within 25 hrs.
replace wear ring and impeller if its damaged.

is the corrosion on the valve cover or just salt resudue on the plastic shield over the valve cover...

... def sounds like a worn ring - checked for nicked impeller blades too - mine were (looking to replace my impeller right now)
... if pulling 7500 rpm then the sc clutch is probably okay - but may want to upgrade washers anyway.

Change out the plastic pump housing. It can be replaced with an 04 GTX SC metal pump housing. The plastic pump housing can't handle the torque.

any 04 - 07 215 hp ski pump housing will do.
just get the housing, swap in YOUR wear ring and impeller and its good to go.
